Coastal Sage Soap

This is the real smell of The West’s coast because this soap is made with real leaves of the Sage plants that blanket the precipitous hillsides of the coastal mountains from the San Francisco Bay region south to Baja California. White Sage, Black Sage and California Sage are a few of the Sages used to make this distinctly coastal-smelling soap. I wish I could capture the misty, salty smell of the air—then this soap would really have it all! So enjoy the aromatic pleasures of hiking in the coastal mountains of California without ever leaving your tub.

California Bay Laurel Soap

California Bay Laurel has an impossibly strong scent that immediately makes me think of the lush, moss-laden coastal canyons where it is most commonly found. While its spicy fragrance is wonderfully evocative and refreshing from a distance, crush a leaf under your nose and the sensation of your sinuses exploding is akin to doing a somersault in a swimming pool without a nose plug. Fortunately for you, we use just a little bit of the leaves in this soap so you get the light, spicy fragrance without the somersault part

Siskiyou Cedar Soap

Siskiyou Cedar is found only in the remote coastal mountains of the Northwest’s Siskiyou country. Its compelling aroma is extremely evocative and was said to have strongly affected 19th-century seamen who sailed schooners made from the fresh wood—“The odor grew and grew on them till they were almost mad with it” (Donald Peattie). While many soaps claim to be “Cedar” scented, this soap is the only one you will find with the distinct smell of Siskiyou Cedar and the distinct feeling of the gorgeous, rugged country where it grows.

 Sierra Cedar  Soap

Sierra Cedar  is perhaps the most widely loved and jealously guarded mountain range in North America. Its deep heart of wilderness has been the fuel of inspiration for generations of wilderness activists. This soap smells just like the Sierra because it is made from the spicy leaves of the Cedar which blankets the mountains’ western flanks. This is the real smell of warm summer evenings along the Tuolumne River or of stumbling out of your sleeping bag in the middle of the night, with the impossibly cold, wood-smoke Sierra air lighting up your senses.

Western Juniper Sachet

No tree is more deeply identified with the dense rain forests of the Pacific Northwest than Douglas Fir. Second in size only to the two California species of Sequoia, Douglas Fir forms pure stands over huge portions of the Pacific Northwest and almost single-handedly fueled the timber industry’s mad frenzy over the past century. This is the real smell of the rain forests of the Northwest—so close your eyes and imagine yourself in the deep canyons of the Columbia River Gorge or the steep, glaciated mountains of the Olympic Peninsula.

Christmas fir sachet

Throughout the mountain ranges of the West, cold-hardy trees such as Grand, Noble and White Fir dominate the higher alpine country, where the extremes in temperature and weather discourage all but the most determined of plants. If this evergreeny, balsamic scent seems familiar, it’s probably because these same Firs have long been popular as Christmas trees. So whether you enjoy this sachet because it smells like the holidays or because it reminds you of hiking in the Cascades, savor this gift from the wild!
